What happens when a population has all of its individual self-defense 2nd amendment rights taken away? They become enslaved to tyrannical rulers. It happened in 1917 with the Bolshevik Revolution. Stalin’s’ communists realized they needed to disarm the public to achieve total dominance. The result was the extermination of entire classes of the population totaling millions of lost lives.
Not long after that, the Socialist Nazis took over Germany in 1933. The “racially superior” Germans systematically murdered millions they considered to be inferior or a threat to their ideal race. China murdered many more millions in their communist revolution. More recently in history were the genocides in Rwanda, Cambodia, Darfur, and Bosnia, all massacres.
Enslave the People
The common denominator is enslaving the people. The ruler’s strength must be far superior to the population, making them helpless to fight back. Our Founding Fathers realized that risk. They designed our Constitution and Bill of Rights to guarantee it would never happen in the United States of America. At least they thought it wouldn’t!
The Marxist Progressive Left has been gnawing away at our rights and the Constitution for years now. Unfortunately, they’ve made headway. The 2nd Amendment states: “A well-regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.”
It helps to know the thoughts behind the Founding Fathers at the time our nation was forming.
Here are some additional writings relating to the 2nd Amendment from them:
What country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance. Let them take arms.
No free man shall ever be debarred the use of arms.
The Constitution of most of our states (and of the United States) assert that all power is inherent in the people; that they may exercise it by themselves; that it is their right and duty to be at all times armed.
To disarm the people…[i]s the most effectual way to enslave them.
This may be considered as the true palladium of liberty…. The right of self defense is the first law of nature: in most governments it has been the study of rulers to confine this right within the narrowest limits possible. Wherever standing armies are kept up, and the right of the people to keep and bear arms is, under any color or pretext whatsoever, prohibited, liberty, if not already annihilated, is on the brink of destruction.
They that can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety.
The right of the citizens to keep and bear arms has justly been considered, as the palladium of the liberties of a republic; since it offers a strong moral check against the usurpation and arbitrary power of rulers; and will generally, even if these are successful in the first instance, enable the people to resist and triumph over them.
As civil rulers, not having their duty to the people before them, may attempt to tyrannize, and as the military forces which must be occasionally raised to defend our country, might pervert their power to the injury of their fellow citizens, the people are confirmed by the article in their right to keep and bear their private arms.
asasShall Not Be Infringed
These are but a few quotes from our Founding Fathers’ writings as to their intent of the 2nd Amendment. It’s obvious to see they felt the Right to Bear Arms was individual and unalienable. Additionally, the phrase it shall not be infringed was their attempt to preserve it for the future. That was their intent, but that’s not what has happened since the birth of our Nation.
Activist Judges have made many rulings to reduce the breadth of the 2nd Amendment. Many of those rulings have been reversed, and many have not. Legislatures have used their authority to impose additional restrictions such as proving a need to possess a firearm before being allowed to purchase one. These types of laws violate the Constitution and need to be challenged through the Courts. Unfortunately, the average citizen doesn’t have the financial means to hire the staff of attorneys to make those challenges.
Variety of Tactics
Remember the Progressive Left is actually Marxist. To achieve their goals they must remove the ability of the citizens to fight back against the rulers. Some tactics they’ve used are going after different gun styles, limiting ammunition, increasing background checks, overtaxing ammunition, suing gun manufacturers, and red flag laws.
Today’s Supreme Court has been adamant in its interpretation of the 2nd Amendment. They feel it applies to all citizens equally in the United States. Most 2nd Amendment cases along with other cases are never heard by the Court. Currently, there are three Judges on the Supreme Court that don’t agree with the 2nd Amendment and feel it should be modified. What could happen if the Democrats pack the Court with additional far-left judges? My guess is the right to bear arms will be eliminated or at least modified to reduce the number of guns.
The Mainstream Media
Their biggest weapon is the media. The mainstream media has bought into the progressive left agenda and is censoring real data. They’re suppressing stories that are pro-gun, highlighting anti-gun stories, and completely lying about gun-related incidents. A great example is the Kyle Rittenhouse case in Kenosha. The truth didn’t come out until he was found not guilty in court. Even then the media did not apologize for lying.
Studies Prove It
Over the past 20 years, numerous studies have shown that removing guns from society doesn’t reduce the number of violent injuries and deaths. Instead of guns, people use different weapons. In 1994, President Bill Clinton was able to get an assault weapon ban and a large magazine ban passed. The results were conclusive, there was no change in the number of gun-related deaths in America over the next 10 years. The ban was then lifted in 2004.
Study after study has shown the most gun-restrictive cities in America (usually Democrat) have the highest crime rates and gun-related incidents. Washington D.C. had the most restrictive laws in the nation but had the highest crime in the nation. When citizens can’t protect themselves, crime is rampant and violence increases. As of today, 19 of the top 20 crime-ridden cities in America are Democrat-run. They also have the most restrictive gun control measures in place.
Mass Shootings
Mass shootings are always a boon to the media and progressive left to promote their message to ban all guns. Usually, these shootings take place in schools, universities, and churches, and that is for a reason. These are all gun-free zones where people won’t be armed. The media wouldn’t report that if these areas had armed citizens the mass shooting may never have happened.
The mainstream media reports gun deaths to drive the reader to conclude that guns must be outlawed. They do that by manipulating the data and the way they deliver it. When they report 45,222 people died from gun-related injuries in 2020, the reader assumes these people died from a violent criminal act. The truth is 54% of these deaths, 24,420 people used a gun to commit suicide. If they were in that bad of a mental state, they would have found another means to achieve their goal.
Covid-19
The number of gun-related injuries was the highest in history in 2020. The reason was mental illness spiked from covid lockdowns, job losses, church lockdowns, despair of not knowing the future, etc. Instead of reporting that mental illness was the underlying issue caused by the pandemic, the media used the opportunity to blame guns.
Even the wording the media uses is meant to sway people against guns. “Gun Violence” seems to be the title they like the most. According to Merriam’s Dictionary, violence is ”the use of physical force so as to injure, abuse, damage, or destroy.” No gun, knife, or any other weapon can perform physical force ending in violence, without a person using it for that purpose. Guns are tools, just as a hammer doesn’t build houses, but is a tool to build houses. A plane doesn’t fly you to a destination, a pilot uses the plane to fly people to destinations. However, a hammer and a plane can also be used in violent acts to kill people as in 9/11.
The Founding Fathers
Guns are needed in our society not only for sport, hunting, and personal safety but mostly to keep the government honest. The Founding Fathers recognized it as the main resource of the people to keep the rulers from turning tyrannical. They found their reasoning rooted in the 1689 English Bill of Rights, “The natural right of resistance and self preservation when the sanctions of
society and laws are found insufficient to restrain the violence of oppression.”
Progressive-left arguments contest this as conspiracy theorist rhetoric. An argument based on federal troops, state national guard units, and a variety of state and local law enforcement would easily quell any citizen uprisings. Fortunately, all of these people took an oath to uphold the Constitution, are patriotic, and chose the vocation to serve their country and the people. Most law enforcement and military will not raise their weapons against the citizens of this country that are protecting the Constitution. We’ve seen it already with a variety of different Sheriff’s refusing to enforce a variety of smaller unconstitutional laws.
Chipping Away At The 2nd Amendment
The Federal government knows this and is allowing the Progressive-left to eat away at the 2nd Amendment and slowly reduce the ability of the citizens to defend themselves. This is why elections matter, not just from the Bills passed, taxes, and appropriations, but Supreme Court nominees that follow the Constitution.
I suggest that every American citizen that loves their country, go out and learn how to handle a gun safely, purchase at least one gun and plenty of ammunition, and frequently keep up their shooting skills at a range. Keep on your Representatives to fight the Progressive-left. Speak out when you see the WOKE bringing Marxist ideas to your community and schools. Vote for candidates that support the Constitution.
