The Real Cost of Illegal Immigration

Illegal Immigration is robbing the taxpayers of this country, and the American government has been complicit and is responsible.  We have the experience, knowledge, and funding to correct it, but the power of politics is in the way. The real cost of illegal immigration is being suppressed from the public by the government.

Direct Costs Of Illegal Immigration

Schools – Esl, Meals, Busing, Textbooks, Computers

There are over 5 million children learning the English language in our schools today.  Many districts limit only 2 students per teacher for their ESL (English as a Second Language) program. Meals are typically free for students from these low-income families, many districts include breakfast as well.

The huge increase in illegal aliens attending schools increases the need for more buses, textbooks, and student computers. The Federal Government typically pitches in 8% of the cost of public education with local property taxes contributing the bulk of the remainder. Remember the Federal Government makes no money, they just redistribute your tax money. The taxpayers are paying all the costs for the illegal aliens to be educated in American schools.

School Boards across the country have been forced to curtail sports, extracurricular activities, and non-essential classes to make ends meet. These cost-cutting moves reduce the quality of education for the rest of the students.

Medicare & Medicaid

Illegal aliens don’t receive welfare, but their anchor babies do. They then qualify for the Children’s Health Insurance Program, or CHIP, state Emergency Medicaid program, and The Family Violence Program. These programs are costing taxpayers billions of dollars.  It is unknown what percentage is attributed to illegal aliens but is estimated at 40%. In 2016, just the CHIP program cost taxpayers almost 16 billion dollars. Again, the real cost of illegal immigration is being hidden from us because there would be too much public outcry.

Hospitals

1986 Emergency Medical Treatment and Active Labor Act, which requires hospital emergency departments to treat all patients with an “emergency”, regardless of documentation or ability to pay, have facilitated the abuse of American health care by illegal aliens. 

That was 14 years ago when the monthly crossings were a fraction of what they are today. Comparing the value of the dollar, that 34.5 million dollars are now worth 47.6 million dollars. Again, that’s just one county hospital in the U.S. that’s required to treat anyone regardless of their status.

Texas Estimates

The State of Texas estimates illegal aliens cost over $850 million to the taxpayers of Texas for statewide “free” medical services. Looking at the rest of the country and the number is in the many billions of dollars.

FEDS – The Federal Government

The Federal Government is supplying new border-crossing illegal aliens with brand-new iPhones. They claim it’s to assist them with assimilation and to provide geo-tracking if they’re turned on and decide to keep them. They are also working with them for transportation across the country, housing, and food. The real cost of illegal immigration should be known to the public.

Bureau of Prisons

The Federal Bureau of Prisons provides statistics on incarcerated individuals within the United States. As of August 2022, approximately 2 million people are currently being held in local, state, and federal prisons combined. Sixteen percent or approximately 320,000 people are non-citizens, obviously, not all are illegal aliens, but a large share is. 

Today’s estimated cost to house an inmate is about $37,000 per year.  If only half of the 320,000 non-citizens are illegal aliens, that’s still almost 6 billion dollars a year that the taxpayers are paying. *Note: due to Covid and a variety of other Justice Reforms, the prison populations have decreased by 20% over the past few years.

State, County, Local Law Enforcement, Justice Services

The southern border states obviously account for the lion’s share of taxpayer costs involved with law enforcement and justice system costs associated with illegal aliens.  A report published in 2006 put the costs of California, Arizona, New Mexico, and Texas at nearly 200 million dollars per year. With nearly 200,000 illegal alien crossings per month now, I would estimate those costs are 10 times that figure after adjusted for inflation. 

Indirect Costs Of Illegal Immigration

Auto Insurance

Auto insurance rates are based on a variety of factors including losses in a particular area, drivers’ age, and the type and age of the vehicle being driven. Those are all choices that we, the consumers make.  I have a choice where I live, how old a vehicle I want to drive, and whether it’s a sports car, sedan, or pickup truck.

One area I have no control over is uninsured/underinsured motorist coverage. It’s mandatory and it’s based on what the “other” guy does.  In southern Texas, not long ago, according to local insurance agents, there was a 50% chance that if my car was involved in an accident with an uninsured motorist, it would be an illegal alien. Auto insurance rates have skyrocketed, putting additional costs on responsible law-abiding drivers.

Reduced Wages & Loss of Jobs

This subject has been of much contention and reported by the mainstream media as “migrants only take the jobs Americans won’t do”. That is false, we live in a capitalistic society where the market dictates what a job or service is worth. The issue starts with what an employer must pay to employ a worker. 

Legal employment in the United States has federal, state, and local taxes withheld, FICA, or Social Security and Medicare taxes withheld, FUTA, or Federal Unemployment Insurance, State Unemployment Insurance, possibly health insurance, long-term care insurance, life insurance, dental and vision insurance, disability insurance, holidays, vacations, retirement plans, etc. Not only do the employees pay the social security tax and Medicare tax, but the employer must match that tax.

Claims to be a Contractor

A law-abiding employee could easily cost $20 an hour to perform a function, whereas an illegal alien will do it for $10 an hour cash “under the table”. Employers can now get twice the number of workers for the same price. Another trick illegal aliens use is a 1099 Form as “contractors”.  They produce a fake tax ID number and work as contractors with no tax withheld. 

A contractor is responsible to make those payments on their own, but none of that money ever reaches the government.  Once the IRS finds the fake numbers, the aliens simply come up with another fake one.

The worst illegal alien scam is using a stolen social security number and claiming numerous dependents to reduce the withholding of taxes.  In this case, there is a small amount of taxes being withheld for the government, however, it is now the real taxpayer’s responsibility to prove they are not the ones that received those wages and claimed so many dependents. 

As more and more illegal aliens take these jobs the value gets diminished because of the lower wages they are receiving to perform them, and the number of positions open to the fair market is lost. If the real cost of illegal immigration was divulged publicly, there would be a revolt by the citizens.

Currency Exported

Illegal aliens export most of what they earn back to their country of origin, these are called remittance payments.  Typically done through wire transfers such as Western Union and a slew of others typically found at convenience stores and Latino supermarkets. They are free of taxation and IRS reporting below $10,000 per transaction.

Billions of dollars are transferred this way every year.  We are a consumptive society that relies on the sales taxes of goods and services in our states and local communities for the public services that we receive.  When cash gets sent out of the country, the rest of us must provide additional revenue for those services that everyone enjoys, including the services the illegal aliens are using, such as parks, roads, bridges, libraries, etc.

The overall effect also upsets the trade balance and devalues our currency with the countries that get that influx of cash.

National Security

So far, this fiscal year, there have been 70 apprehensions at the border of persons identified on the FBI’s Most Wanted List. Those are the known apprehensions, what about the number of terrorists that are in the “got away” groups?  What will be the destruction and terrorist activity from what we don’t know? What is the real cost of illegal immigration costing us for the Border Patrol to act as babysitters?

Health Costs Associated to Illegal Drugs Crossing the Border

Tons of Opioids, Fentanyl, Methamphetamines and Marijuana are being smuggled into our country every day due to the government’s order to keep the border open.  Deaths and hospitalizations are skyrocketing at an unprecedented rate never seen in this country.

Foodbank Shortages

Unemployed, underemployed, and homeless American citizens are finding Foodbank shortages due to the massive increase of illegal aliens using Foodbanks as a source of food.

Health Effects

An uptick in diseases that were once considered eradicated in the United States such as polio and whooping cough.  Increased spread of Covid-19.

Drug Smuggling

In July 2022, there was enough fentanyl seized to kill every American in our country 1.5 times over.  How much wasn’t seized that slipped through the porous border? China is providing raw materials to Mexican drug cartels for the production of fentanyl. The Biden Administration shows no sign of combatting the problem, they almost seem to not care at all.

Conclusions

Illegal immigration is an astounding cost to all US taxpayers, realized and unrealized costs in the trillions of dollars each year.  Media outlets refuse to tell the whole story of immigration and try to lead the citizens that this invasion of millions of immigrants crossing our southern border is positive for us.  What is happening is both illegal and immoral, but much worse, it’s to gain power by tilting the scales of our future elections.

Article IV, Section 4, of the Constitution of the United States, states: “The United States shall guarantee to every State in this Union a republican form of government and shall protect each of them against invasion”.  

Section 1325 in Title 8 of the United States Code, “Improper entry of alien”, Any alien who (1) enters or attempts to enter the United States at any time or place other than as designated by immigration officers, or (2) eludes examination or inspection by immigration officers, or (3) attempts to enter or obtains entry to the United States by a willfully false or misleading representation or the willful concealment of a material fact, shall, for the first commission of any such offense, be fined under title 18 or imprisoned not more than 6 months, or both, and, for a subsequent commission of any such offense, be fined under title 18, or imprisoned not more than 2 years, or both.

Biden Administration Violating Federal Law

It’s time to discuss whether the Biden Administration is subverting both the Constitution of the United States and Federal Immigration Law without regard for the consequences to the citizens they serve.  Questions to ask are “why doesn’t the Biden administration open the border to the millions of Ukrainians displaced by war?”  Ukrainians are typically higher educated and more highly skilled than the current illegal aliens crossing our southern border.  Could the answer be there is a higher percentage of Ukrainians that would vote republican rather than democrat? Are we really solving a humanitarian crisis in Mexico, Honduras, Guatemala, Haiti, Somalia, Cuba, etc., or are we just transferring it?
