How the Progressives are Using the Separation of Church and State to Cancel God

Despite what you hear in mainstream media, the Separation of Church and State is not about keeping religion out of the government but rather keeping the government out of religion. The 1st Amendment to the Constitution, ratified in 1791 reads “Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof, or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press, or the Right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.” We usually refer to the 1st Amendment as our Right to free speech, but it’s so much more. This piece will explain how the Progressives are using the separation of church and state as an assault on religion to cancel God.

Referred to as the “Establishment Clause and the Religion Clause”, the Founding Fathers, particularly 1st Amendment author James Madison, the goal was to remove the ability of government to establish a state-run church or intervene with an individual’s spiritual practices and beliefs. In England, the Church of England and the Monarchy had been intertwined as the King of England was also the Supreme Governor over the church with Bishops handling the duties of the church. 

The Founding Fathers had a deep-rooted belief that religious freedom was necessary for a free society to flourish. The 1st Amendment was the first protection of the law for a person’s religious freedoms anywhere in the world. In essence, the 1st Amendment protected religion from the government, and from laws passed by the government. Today the Progressive Left doesn’t care about the Constitution and has declared an assault on religion.

The Founding Fathers

The Founding Fathers believed that religious freedom was a Right that comes from God and is essential if men were to enjoy any other freedom.  Those Rights are also known as Unalienable Rights, Rights that can never be taken away. Thomas Jefferson wrote in a letter: “Believing with you that religion is a matter which lies solely between a man and his God, that he owes account to none other for his faith or his worship.”

Over the past 230 years, there have been many legal challenges and Supreme Court opinions handed down that did not follow the intent of the Founding Fathers as found in their writings. In 1962, a Jewish New York father objected to a school prayer of Christian faith being said in front of his son. In 1963, the Supreme Court banned the reading of the Bible and Christian prayer in schools. Even hinting at prayers to protect players before a sporting event will initiate a response from the ACLU to bring legal action against the school or individuals involved. 

The Colorado Cakeshop

A more recent case was overturned by the Supreme Court in a win for religious freedom. The cakeshop in Colorado wouldn’t sell a wedding cake for a gay couple’s wedding based on it violated the owners’ religious beliefs. The owners were sued based on Colorado antidiscrimination laws which were upheld by the Appellate Court. In 2018, the Supreme Court took up the case and reversed the decision, and affirmed that such an action would violate the cakeshop owners’ religious freedoms.

Why over the last 25–30 years has there been such a propensity to discourage organized religion in America and around the world? Why are little villages and towns being sued to remove nativity scenes during the Christmas holidays at the public square? Why are football players ostracized for kneeling to say a private prayer before a game? The Progressive Left will do anything as an assault on religion to cancel God.

Why has it become wrong to say Merry Christmas?

We are in the middle of a movement and didn’t even realize it.  During the end of the cold war, Marxist Communists were baffled that their once proud Russia had capitulated and given in to those “Imperialists” in America and tore down the Berlin wall. Never to be conquered, the Marxists doubled their efforts and started a campaign to spread socialism around the world and specifically in the United States. They followed their manifesto and began in our schools teaching anti-Christian indoctrination of social behavior and assault on religion.

Vladimir Lenin said, “a true communist would always promote atheism and combat religion, because it is the psychological opiate that robs people of their human agency, of their volition, as men and women, to control their own reality.”

Karl Marx said, “the communist hatred of faith is a feature, not a fault, the opium of the people. The abolition of religion as the illusory happiness of the people is the demand for their real happiness.”

The path to socialism in our country will be long, laced at every turn with massive struggles on many levels, and involve diverse class and social forces. It will proceed not straightforwardly, not smoothly, not without reversals and original features through stages and at each higher stage of struggle the balance of power will qualitatively tip to the advantage of the working class and people.

Our overriding aim is a society in which class divisions disappear over time. Class divisions, after all, are at the core of capitalism and its production relations, politics, and culture.

For the past 25 years, the building of a labor-led peoples coalition against right-wing domination of our nations political structures has been our strategic objective. It has given political coherence to our policies and practical work and allowed our Party to stand head and shoulders above many organizations on the left.

Take, for example, the recent elections, in which the main political task was to take control of Congress out of Republican hands. No other struggle had the same potential to reconfigure the politics of our country and strike a blow for peace and social progress. 

We understood this, and thus we were where a communist party should be: fully engaged in that struggle which if won changes the dynamics of every other struggle. 

International

Internationalism is another essential feature of our Party.

All of these essential features of a Communist Party, taken together, make us a unique participant in the working class movement and allow us to play a leading role at each stage of struggle.

For communists to influence working people, we have to be on the terrain where they are already fighting. We have to be attuned to the issues that are already roiling them. We have to be part of the struggles in which they are already engaged. 

Does this mean that communists never initiate anything? No, but we should do so only after taking the pulse of the people and with an eye to bringing other forces in on the ground floor. 

According to Lenin, 

Working-class consciousness cannot be genuine political consciousness unless the workers are trained to respond to all cases of tyranny, oppression, violence, and abuse, no matter what class unless they are trained, moreover, to respond from a [communist] point of view and no other. 

For the foreseeable future, this movement will activate its own constituencies and advance its own agenda while working closely with the Democratic Party and especially its progressive and liberal groupings in Congress to combat the right-wing danger and win legislative victories.

Some things are obvious. We need more members and more clubs. We urgently need a bigger readership for our press. We need to better integrate our mass work and Party work (this is a big and old challenge). We need more public forums and Marxist schools. 

Looking For Members

We need more, many more, members who are known as communists to their neighbors, co-workers, and fellow activists. 

We need more organizational visibility too more people should know that there is a Communist Party, what we stand for, what we do, who we are.

We need a stronger presence on the internet. 

We need a comprehensive system of Marxist education and leadership training.

We need more club chairs and comrades who give their best to their clubs as well as to the mass movements.

We also should print our publications, pamphlets, and documents in Spanish if we hope to increase our visibility in the Latino community, especially among immigrants, many of whom because of their experience and history would be interested in the Party.

The Young Communist League is making waves among young people and that is something that brings us joy. But there has to be more, much more, to our relations with the YCL than this. Not only should we champion them and they us, but we should explore the political and practical ways to deepen our relations.

Should we be scared – no, should we be alarmed – yes, should we fight back – absolutely! Their primary target is the young people in college with a head full of misguided ideas and massive debt when they graduate.

Scholar Todd M. Johnson estimated the Soviets sent 15 million Christians to their deaths in prison camps between 1921 and 1950.  Another five million Christians perished in the following 30 years. 

They Hate Religion

The Marxist’s hatred of religion has shown itself most brutal with the riots and burning of churches as in St. John’s in Washington D.C. The young people that rioted looted and terrorized our cities over the Summer of 2020 were well-organized and funded. Very few rioters were ever brought to justice. Hundreds of millions of dollars are being funded for the campaigns of District Attorneys with soft-on-crime policies to be elected. This assault on religion is causing increased crime and hatred within our communities.

Now we recognize the core issue going on with the decline of religion.  The communist Marxists are using the courts, propaganda, and getting bad District Attorneys, Mayors, and even federal officials elected to tear down our country. So, what can we do about it? FIGHT THEM! Even one person can make a difference!

Start with sharing this article with everyone you know.

What Can We Do?

Volunteer at your local church for new member drives.  Have every parishioner show his church support with a church decal on their car.  Be a happy member of your church, people gravitate to others that are happy. Start writing your elected Representatives in Washington (Link at top of the Website to find your Rep) and let them know how you feel. Demand new school choice legislation is enacted with your tax money reallocated from public schools to your school choice. (Look for  Sample Letters at the Link at the top of the Website).

Write your congressman to codify that the CDC will never have the authority to restrict people from attending church again.  Put your young kids in private Christian schools. Have your high school kids look at conservative colleges like Liberty University and Hillsdale College. If you’re providing any funding to liberal arts schools with WOKE agendas, redirect those funds to more conservative schools.  Attend local school board meetings and speak up when you see something wrong. Start the conversation with everyone you know about what’s going on and spread the word!
